Total glucosides of paeonia, from the dried root of Paeonia lactiflora Pall, family Mauveaceae. It is a brownish-yellow dried powder with bitter, sour and astringent taste; easily absorbs moisture. Contains paeoniflorin, hydroxy-paeoniflorin, paeonin, albiflorin, benzoylpaeoniflorin, oxypaeoniflorin The content of paeoniflorigenone, paeonolide, paeonol, paeonol; also contains benzoic acid, carrot glycosides and a variety of tannins, etc., of which the content of paeoniflorigenone accounts for more than 90% of the total glycosides.
White peony is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, with the efficacy of nourishing blood, softening the liver, astringing yin, collecting sweat, and relieving pain.

According to modern pharmacological research, TGP has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-stress and immunomodulatory effects, and its effects are concentration- and function-dependent.
Paeoniflorin has significant analgesic, sedative and anticonvulsant effects.
Paeoniflorin dilates coronary arteries, increases coronary flow, counteracts acute myocardial ischemia, and lowers blood pressure.
The effect of paeoniflorin on the blood-brain barrier and symptoms of neuropathological changes in cerebral ischemia and cerebral blood flow during reperfusion after cerebral ischemia.
Paeoniflorin has improved anti-prothrombotic effect caused by high fat and high cholesterol.
